2.13 Time: Order

Some adverbs of time describe the order in which events occur.  These adverbs usually occur at the beginning or the end of the sentence.  If they start the sentence, they cause inversion of the subject and the verb.

(now)
 Jeg bor i USA nå.
(I live in the USA now.)
bor jeg i USA.
(Now I live in the USA.)
etterpå
(afterwards)
Jeg dro hjem etterpå.
(I went home afterwards.)
Etterpå dro jeg hjem.
(Afterwards, I went home.)
først
(first)
Jeg gjorde leksene først.
(I did homework first.)
Først gjorde jeg leksene.
(First, I did my homework.)

(then)
Jeg tok en lur.
(I took a nap then.)
tok jeg en lur.
(Then, I took a nap.)
