1.16 Comparative and Superlative Forms

1) The superlative has a definite form used before a noun in the definite form:

Han er den beste eleven i klassen. (He is the best pupil in the class.)
Han er den beste i klassen.  (He is the best (one) in the class.)

2) The superlative can be used when comparing only two alternatives:  

Hva er vanskeligst?  Norsk eller spansk?  (What is most difficult?  Norwegian or Spanish?)|
Hvem er høyest?  Steinar eller Kjetil? (Who is tallest?  Steinar or Kjetil?)
