Vokabular. Before reading, familiarize yourself with the essential vocabulary by using the Quizlet flashcards. Turn your volume on so you can also hear the pronunciation of the words. Also use the quiz function of Quizlet to quiz yourself on the most essential vocabulary before you move on. When you use Quizlet for the first time you will need to click on the “options” button, selecting “show Norwegian first” and then the “advanced audio options” to select “Norwegian audio on” and “English audio off.” You also have the option of starring the words and expressions you have trouble with and studying those separately (click on “options to study starred words only). Finally there are additional study modes and games you can use.

I kapittel 2 drar Elling og Kjell Bjarne og henter to kattunger. Elling hadde funnet en annonse i avisen, men så måtte han ringe til en fremmed dame for å spørre om katten som skulle gis bort. Det var vanskelig, men han greide det. Da de kom hjem til damen, ble de traktert med kake og kaffe. De skulle egentlig bare ha en, men endte opp med to, fordi damen sa at to katter kunne leke med hverandre. Kjell Bjarne kaller katten sin for Pepper’n, men Elling klarer ikke å bestemme seg for et navn til sin katt. På trikketuren hjem oppdager Elling at nordmenn blir mer åpne enn vanlig når de sitter der med kattungene i buret. Folk snakker med hverandre, og begynner å fortelle om livene sine. Etter at Elling og Kjell Bjarne kommer hjem med kattene og tatt dem med opp til leiligheten, oppdager de hvor morsomt det er bare å sitte og se på hva de gjør. Da bestemmer de seg for å dra ut mer og ikke bare sitte hjemme. På slutten av kapitlet finner de ut at det kanskje ville være en god idé å dra på en restaurant og spise middag.

- Look at Kirkeveien—which apartment could be theirs (Frognervn 33 in the movie)? Use Google streetview to explore the area. What is the apartment like? (3. etasje; balkong, bakgård).
