A noun (et substantiv) is the name of a person, place or thing.
Norwegian nouns have three grammatical genders: masculine, feminine and neuter. Sometimes the grammatical gender is related to a real-life gender, or sex:
Masculine (en) |
Feminine (ei or en) |
Neuter (et) |
| en mann (a man) | ei/en jente (a girl) | et bord (a table) |
Most of the time the genders must simply be memorized along with the nouns:
Masculine (en) |
Feminine (ei or en) |
Neuter (et) |
| en stol (a chair) | ei/en bok (a book) | et hus (a house) |
