1. When the adjective is part of an idiomatic expression, the plural ending is often dropped:
Vi er glad i fisk. (We are fond of fish.)
De har vært gift i 20 år. (They have been married for 20 years.)
Vi er vant til å vaske opp selv. (We are used to doing the dishes ourselves.)
Er de klar over at det er søndag i dag? (Do they realize that it is Sunday today?)
2. When making a general statement about a noun in the indefinite form, the neuter form of the adjective is used:
Mat er dyrt i Norge. (compare: Det er dyrt med mat i Norge.)
(Food is expensive in Norway.)
Pizza er godt. (compare: Det er godt med pizza.)
(Pizza is good.)
Røyking er skadelig. (compare: Det er skadelig med røyking.)
(Smoking is harmful.)
