Brødre i blodet, by Ingvar Ambjørnsen, is a popular book published in 1996 upon which the movie Elling is based. At St. Olaf College, the Norwegian department has used this book in the fifth semester Norwegian language course for the past several years. During this time, we’ve developed many activities to accompany the book to help our students better learn and use the vocabulary, understand the plot, themes, etc, and to connect to other things they are learning in class.
To use these activities, you will need to purchase a copy of the book or e-book (see link below). We also highly recommend the audiobook. We do not sell the book, nor do we profit off the sale of them. We just think they’re a great tool to learn Norwegian language and culture. Enjoy!
Ordering information:
You will need to create an account, but I found I was able to do so by filling in the minimum of information. They will not accommodate a US zip code, but if you type in the first four digits of your zip code, that seems to work. This will permit you to download a Kindle book or audio book. To order a physical copy of the book, you will need to contact Norli (eksport@norli.no) and inquire. Another possibility is the St. Olaf College bookstore (bookstoreinfo@stolaf.edu).
